Sambonet Black Flatware: PVD-Coated Stainless Steel for the Table
Black flatware works differently from steel: it reads as a graphic line against a white plate and as a quiet continuation of a dark or textured one. Sambonet builds it on the same stainless steel used across the flatware range, adding a black PVD finish in a mirror polish. The current black selection spans five collections and covers place settings, individual pieces and serving utensils.
Five collections, one color
Linea Q is the widest choice in black, with squared handles and a flat, geometric profile that carries the dark finish across the full length of each piece. Flat is the lightest and most linear of the group, available in the largest number of single items — from table forks to butter knives and serving spoons. Linear offers a 5-piece place setting in the same black shade. Rock appears as a 60-piece set for twelve, and Jungle — a foliage-patterned design by Gianni Cinti — as a boxed set of six espresso spoons; both use the second black shade, Mirror PVD 2Black.
18/10 stainless steel with a PVD coating
Every black piece on this page is 18/10 stainless steel finished with a Mirror PVD coating. PVD (physical vapor deposition) bonds color to the steel as a surface layer up to 2 microns thick, rather than sitting on top of it as a paint or lacquer. The treatment increases surface hardness — and with it resistance to micro-scratching — and does not oxidize. Two shades are in the range: Mirror PVD Black, used across Linea Q, Flat and Linear, and Mirror PVD 2Black, used on Rock and Jungle. All are mirror-polished; there is no matte version in the black selection. Because color perception depends on shape, size, finish and ambient light, slight chromatic variation between models, references or production batches is possible and falls within Sambonet's monitored tolerance limits. Several pieces are also available in other colors from the same molds, so a black place setting can be mixed with gold, copper or steel from the identical collection.
Place settings, single pieces and full sets
Three collections offer a 5-piece place setting — table fork, table knife, table spoon, dessert fork and teaspoon — which is the usual starting point for a first purchase. From there the range breaks down into single items: dessert and cake forks, dessert and butter knives, table, dessert, tea and espresso spoons, and serving forks and spoons in the 9 to 9¾ inch range. For a table of twelve, the Rock 60-piece set covers the full service in one purchase. Buying individually is the practical route for replacing a lost piece, adding dessert or coffee service to an existing setting, or testing black silverware against your own plates before committing to a full set.
